How much does a POS cost in Tenerife and what does the price depend on?

Drawing of a basic POS setup: touchscreen, receipt printer and cash drawer

The price of a POS is made up of five items: the equipment, the software licence, the installation with data loading, maintenance and card payments. There is no single figure because every business combines those items differently: a counter-only bar with one screen is at one end and a restaurant with a terrace, three handhelds and automatic payment is at the other. This Tenerife TPV guide explains what is in each item, what pushes it up and how to get quotes you can compare with each other.

What items make up the price of a POS?

  1. Equipment: the touchscreen, the receipt printer and the cash drawer; and, depending on the business, handhelds, a kitchen printer, barcode reader, scales or an automatic cash drawer.
  2. Software: the Glop, BDP, Sysme or Last.app licence. Some manufacturers sell it outright with an annual maintenance fee and others charge by subscription.
  3. Installation: loading the menu or products, setting the IGIC rate on each product, configuring VeriFactu, setting up the equipment at the venue and training the staff.
  4. Maintenance: what you pay for having someone to call. It can be no fee and paying for each call-out, or a monthly plan that includes visits and replacement equipment.
  5. Card payments: if you link the card terminal to the software, the payment gateway has its own fees, which are set by the provider and not by the installer.

The first three are paid at the start; the last two, month by month. A quote that only shows the price of the screen is telling you a fifth of the story.

What makes a POS more or less expensive?

  • The number of workstations. Each screen, each handheld and each printer adds equipment and, often, a licence.
  • How orders reach the kitchen. One printer is the simplest; one per station or a kitchen screen costs more.
  • Cash handling. An ordinary cash drawer costs very little; an automatic cash drawer (Glory, SMARTtill or AT·CASH) is the most expensive piece at the counter and is justified by the discrepancies it prevents.
  • The venue's network. If the Wi-Fi doesn't reach the terrace, access points have to be added; if it already reaches well, that item disappears.
  • The starting data. A menu that arrives in an Excel file is loaded quickly; one that has to be copied from a blackboard is not.
  • What can be reused. Many screens, printers and cash drawers still work with the new software.

Can I reuse the equipment I already have?

Often yes, and it is the most direct way to bring the quote down. Before proposing anything, Tenerife TPV checks the equipment at the venue: quite a few till computers are still fine with a tune-up and an SSD drive, and receipt printers and cash drawers usually work with any software. We only suggest replacing what isn't worth keeping. If you already have a Glop, BDP or Sysme licence, it is installed on the new equipment and the data is transferred.

Is it better to buy the software or pay for it monthly?

It depends on how long you are going to run the business and how much you want to pay up front. With an outright licence the initial outlay is higher and after that you pay a small annual fee that entitles you to new versions, including those VeriFactu requires. With a subscription you start by paying less and the fee never ends. Each manufacturer has its own options, so Tenerife TPV puts both calculations in the quote, over several years, so that you choose with numbers.

Which costs are often forgotten when comparing quotes?

  • Data loading: is the menu and product list entered, or do they hand you the software empty?
  • Staff training, on installation day and when new people start.
  • Updates for VeriFactu or IGIC changes: are they included or charged separately?
  • The UPS (battery backup), which keeps the POS on if the power goes off. Tenerife TPV always installs one.
  • Travel for visits: with Tenerife TPV it is €10 in Adeje; €20 in Arona, San Miguel de Abona, Granadilla, Guía de Isora and Santiago del Teide; and €40 in the rest of the island, IGIC included.
  • What a day without taking payments costs if the equipment fails and nobody answers.

Why does a POS bought online look cheaper?

Because the price you see is only that of the first item. Equipment bought online arrives without the menu, without IGIC configured, without VeriFactu tested and without anyone to link the kitchen printer to the handheld. That work exists all the same: either you do it in your spare time or you pay for it afterwards. And when it fails in the middle of service, support is not on the island.

How do I get a figure for my business?

In two steps. For a ballpark figure, just message us on WhatsApp on 608 99 15 38 with two or three photos of the venue and four details: type of business, number of tables or tills, whether there is a terrace and which software you use today; Tenerife TPV replies the same day. The fixed quote, with equipment, software, setup hours and IGIC itemised, is delivered after a visit of about twenty minutes, which is free in the south of Tenerife.
